In the bass lessons now, I have to pick a song for my final piece. It is my final assessment for Robin's class.
Me and Colin have been thinking and thinking about a piece I could do but didn't really come to a conclusion. I want the final piece to be a lot harder and very challenging for me, because I want to know I am progressing. I have asked for a completely different genre and style, basically something with a lot of slapping.
We came up with so many options such as, Michael Jackson, Marcus Miller, a lot of older music that is quite R&B and pop.
Even though a lot of the pieces he mentioned were impressive and had a lot of 'slapping', nothing clicked for me.
LOVE GAMES by LEVEL 42:
When I left his lesson last week, Colin still didn't know what I was going to do. I wanted to secretly learn Love Games because he thought it was too hard for me and I wanted to impress him.
He e-mailed me and asked what I thought of Michael Jackson's song 'Pretty Young Thing'
I had the first main riff, and all the little alternations to it but I just needed to memorise when each different alternation happens. I had also started the riff after that too!! So I definitely thought I was capable of learning this!
I basically wanted him to tell me which ever one will be more impressive and one that i could basically 'master'!!
I also asked him about the left hand slap in 'Love Games' it didn't really sound on my bass, But when I play it on the College's bass' I can get the left hand slap perfectly.
The College bass' string's feel a lot more loose and easy to use compared to mine. So I was wondering if I need new, thiner strings. Or are the college bass' like that because it has had the same strings for ages and they are used so much.He told me that he loves my enthusiasm. He told me about bass strings as well... he said:
"You might need to get your bass set up with new string and the action slightly lowered. To be honest see if you practise on your bass if will help build strength. When i met Marcus Miller that's what he said he does at the sart of Tours so he can build strength. I will email you the PDF i have of this tune then so you can work on it for next lesson! If you want to Skype if yer a bit stuck i'm free this weekend."
So this is the closest version of what is tabbed out in my book.
